This unique house dates back to the 15th Century and has been carefully
conserved, retaining original features including floorboards, tiles
and wattle and daub walls.
The house is built on the site of a 10th century chateau belonging to
the Counts of March. It commands spectacular views over the Vincou valley.
The property is heated via a large, modern and efficient 'Godin' woodburning
stove in the lounge, which has a newly-installed heat-transfer flue
system to the rooms above. There are also newly installed electric storage
radiators in these and other rooms. Wood for the stove is supplied in
the holiday price.
There is a small walled terrace to the rear facing south-west with wonderful
views over the Vincou valley and the railway viaduct. Patio set for
8.
The furniture is antique with contemporary pictures on the walls.
It can accommodate 8 people in 4 bedrooms.

on the day you arrive.
On arrival, the house key will be found in a key safe, whose code will
be supplied on confirmation of booking. Guests are advised to bring
a torch, as the exterior of the back of the house is deliberately not
illuminated to avoid light pollution and enable guests to see the stars.
On your last day we ask that you vacate the house entirely by 10am.
Please leave the house clean and tidy.

Health
and Safety
The
house was constructed to the standards of earlier times. Consequently,
you may encounter features that reflect its particular character but
deserve due care and attention, particularly for the young, elderly,
less mobile or visually impaired. There are, for example, low beams,
some low doorways, and uneven floors, and there is a steep drop behind
the house.
We
cannot be held responsible for any injury. |

I
loved it here - great place to stay. I loved sitting outside in the
sun . The pool down the road is great - they had slides and a children's
bit too! Overall had a fabulous time. We hope to come back soon.

Thanks to our genial host Mr Chapman, whose vision can only be admired.
Love the features. The fireplace made me feel like Orson Welles at the
end of Citizen Kane. ~ Derek Thomas
A magical house in a wonderful area, the holiday starts the moment

We chose this place as our honeymoon destination - an unusual place
some might say? It has lived up to all expectations (and then
some). It has been lovingly and sensitively restored! Bellac the town
is also very pretty and we were fortunate to have great weather too.
Cooking our own meal and eating on the terrace watching the sunset by
candle light was probably better than any restaurant (very romantic).
Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely and memorable house.

No 2 rue du Fort is a place I would have bought if I had the imagination

This house looks like it's walked out of a postcard. Inside it's
incredibly picturesque and welcoming. The enormous quantity of stairs
makes it impossible to know which storey you're on. Around the house
there is some roller coaster like cycling, which is great fun when you're
in a group. So, basically, it's a great place to stay when you're looking
for rest and camaraderie. ~ Greer Jarrett, Galicia who stayed Summer
2008.
Soft curved wood underhand, rough grippy tiles underfoot, butter
lemon pale paint, welcoming visitors, architectural education, hard-backed
stately beds, shower to die for, we'll be back. ~ Crinan Jarrett,
Galicia who stayed Summer 2008. |
